Hello Hastings!
I'm Brian Hoffman, and I'm proud to call Hastings my home since 2004. This town holds a special place in my heart, and I've committed myself to making it an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
My Journey and Dedication
As an Eagle Scout, I've embraced the values of leadership, service, and dedication. For five years, I led a Boy Scouts of America leadership camp, nurturing leadership skills and personal growth in our youth.
Community and Government Involvement
Currently, I serve as a Zoning and Planning Commissioner for the city of Hastings, a position I've held for the past two years. In this role, I've been actively involved in city zoning and codes, ensuring responsible and sustainable development that benefits our community.
I've also dedicated my time to various boards and organizations within Hastings, including:
Children's Museum of Central Nebraska: Board Member and Vice President
Local Non-Profit Health Clinic: Board Member and Board President
MentoringWorks: Board Member and Board President
Kool Aid Days: Kardboard Boat Coordinator and volunteer for 10 years
Sunrise Rotary: Member
Commitment to Youth and Community
My passion for youth development and leadership extends beyond these roles. I've organized and led numerous charitable events focused on youth mentoring, educational scholarships, child development, and supporting cancer victims. Coaching YMCA youth soccer, youth softball, youth basketball, and other activities have allowed me to mentor young athletes, instilling in them the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication, and leadership.
For the past ten years, I've had the privilege of organizing the Kardboard Boat Races for Kool-Aid Days, bringing our community together for this fun and beloved event. I look forward to Kool-Aid Days 2024!
Professional Contributions
I've served Central Community College for nearly two decades and currently hold the position of Associate Dean. I oversee several departments, including Agricultural Sciences, Criminal Justice, IT & Systems, Hospitality Management & Culinary Arts, Media Arts, Drafting & Design, Electrical Technology, Quality Technology, and Welding. My role involves managing resources, planning course schedules, budgeting, and ensuring the success of both faculty and students. My experience as a past chief negotiator for a NEA/NSEA staff union has honed my ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
Family and Personal Life
My family is my cornerstone. I'm blessed to be married to Dr. Kittie Grace, and we have two wonderful daughters who attend Hastings Middle School and Hastings High School. Their education and well-being are our top priorities. We've had the pleasure of hosting eight Sodbuster summer collegiate baseball players, along with international students from the Czech Republic, Brazil, and Japan. This experience has enriched our lives and strengthened our cultural connections.
A Vision for Hastings
With my background in education, community service, leadership, and negotiation, I'm ready to bring fresh ideas and effective representation to the Hastings City Council. Together, let's build a brighter future for Hastings!
